Additional Information

Family Dollar has agreed to resolve a class action lawsuit over claims its Chestnut Hill ground coffee products misled shoppers about how many cups each package could brew.

According to the lawsuit, Family Dollar’s proprietary coffee lines—including the Chestnut Hill brand—featured labels that overstated the number of cups the product could make based on the amount of coffee included. The plaintiffs argue that customers paid for a product that didn't live up to the advertised performance.

Family Dollar did not admit wrongdoing but agreed to settle the case by offering product vouchers and updating its packaging language.

Under the Terms of the Settlement

Eligible consumers can receive a voucher for one 9.6-ounce container of Chestnut Hill ground coffee. No proof of purchase is required. If the number of claims exceeds expectations, the value of each voucher may be reduced on a pro rata basis.

Family Dollar has also agreed to change its product labeling. Going forward, coffee packaging will either remove the claims about the number of cups per package or revise them based on independent testing.
