Complete Payroll Solutions (CPS), a payroll and human resources company serving businesses nationwide, experienced a data breach around March 10, 2024. The breach compromised sensitive employee information, including Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, financial data, and health insurance information. Affected individuals filed a class action lawsuit alleging that CPS could have prevented the breach through reasonable cybersecurity measures.
While CPS has not admitted any wrongdoing, the company agreed to a $2.6 million settlement to resolve the claims. Under the settlement terms, affected individuals may receive reimbursement for documented losses up to $5,000, an estimated base cash payment of approximately $100, and three years of credit monitoring services.
The settlement was reached in the case Dunn, et al. v. Complete Payroll Solutions LLC, Case No. 1:25-cv-30045-LTS, filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts. Settlement administration is handled by Kroll Settlement Administration.
Class members may claim up to $5,000 in reimbursement for documented out-of-pocket losses related to the data breach, including credit monitoring expenses, unreimbursed fraud or identity theft losses, bank fees, communication charges, and mileage costs. In addition, all claimants are eligible for an estimated base cash payment of approximately $100, though this amount may increase or decrease depending on the total number of claims filed. All class members who submit a valid claim will also receive three years of credit monitoring, which includes one-bureau credit monitoring, dark web monitoring, $1 million in identity theft insurance, and fully managed identity recovery services.
